- A wireless telephone and messaging system provides Secure Immediate Wireless Access (SIWA) to wireless telephones onto existing wireless networks, such as GSM, CDMA, TDMA, and analog (AMPS). The SIWA protocol uses existing wireless network messaging to exchange information between wireless devices and a network server, referred to herein as an Intelligent Service Manager (ISM). The ISM acts as a gateway between wireless devices and wireless service provider, and provides the wireless devices with an immediate limited or unlimited access to the wireless network. The ISM can also deny access to the wireless network from unauthorized wireless devices.
- An architecture and method for permitting internet telephones assigned to a common telephone number but each having a unique IP address to be used in the manner of telephones and extension telephones in PSTN. A calling agent is provided with the fully defined address of two or more telephony devices. Telephone traffic to or from either of these devices is directed to a call agent, which contacts a gateway, which rings one or both of the telephony devices. This gateway then forms a bridge with a secondary gateway, to which are attached the other telephony devices that are to act as extensions of the first, and combines the audio from both so that they appear to the consumer to act like conventional PSTN extension telephones. This architecture can be used with any Internet Protocol telephony device, including video telephones.
- A dual channel redundant wireless network link formed by the Redundant Fixed Wireless Network Link device 10 of the present invention provides a very high reliable network element for mission critical wireless network application. Redundant Fixed Wireless Link device (10) with two wireless networking radio channel (11, 12) turned on simultaneously, and running networking service feature is working as Service Equipment (SE). Both wireless networking radio channel (11, 12) of the SE have the same directional wireless network coverage area. The two wireless networking radio channels (11, 12) are separated by cross polarization of antenna at same radio frequency, or different radio frequency characteristics. One Redundant Fixed Wireless Link device (10) with one of its two wireless networking radio channel (11, 12) turned on and communicating with said SE, and loaded with networking client feature is acting as Client Equipment (CE). The link quality monitor feature of the CE is monitoring the communication link between the SE and CE. When the current link quality is low or the link is down, the CE automatically switches on the alternate wireless networking radio channel (11, 12) to maintain the network communication between the SE and CE. One SE may communicate with plurality of CE in the same wireless network coverage area.
- A system and method of automatically transferring a call between telephones based on the distance between the two telephones is provided. First the proximity of a first telephone to a second telephone is determined. If the proximity is within a predetermined limit or threshold, calls directed to the first telephone are transferred to the second telephone. Security of the transfer may be ensured to prevent fraudulent use of the subscription of either telephone. Procedures are provided which permit any the above-mentioned steps to be performed either at the level of the individual telephones involved in the transfer, or by an element of the network, such as an MSC or HLR.
- A wireless communication system including flexible wireless handsets with modular electronic components selected for operation within multiple systems. The units may be configured for removable connection to a variety of cartridges to provide a versatile communication device. A cartridge may be selected for the replacement of one or more existing cartridges within the handset to provide varying degrees of flexibility including the selection of a different featureset for the handset and compatible operation within different wireless systems. Methods are further provided for upgrading and reconfiguring cellular telephones and wireless communication devices for operation within different systems. A flexible wireless telephone with an original removable cartridge may include later-substituted cartridges to improve or change the featureset of the telephone, and may also enable a user to replace the internal electronics of a handset with different internal electronics for use within a different wireless system. A consumer may be thus provided with extended use the same flexible wireless telephone handset yet still migrate to a new wireless system by installing cartridges with desired featuresets within the selected wireless telephone system(s).
