- The methods of the present invention prepare carrageenan products from processed seaweed material having a solids content of less than 25% by weight solids, using shear stress treatment. The carrageenan products comprise at least about 60% by weight of carrageenan and at least about 2% by weight of acid insoluble material. The carrageenan products of the present invention are useful as components in food products, such as, dairy products, meats, and dessert gels as well as non-food products, such as, toothpaste formulations, cosmetics, paints, films and delivery capsules.
- Methods and apparatus are provided for monitoring and encouraging health and fitness. In accordance with a first aspect, an apparatus is provided that is adapted to assist in weight loss and exercise. The apparatus comprises a personal digital assistant (PDA) having computer program code adapted to assist in at least one of calorie counting, meal selection, meal suggestion, weight monitoring, weight loss or gain monitoring, fat consumption monitoring, sugar consumption monitoring and salt consumption monitoring. The PDA also includes computer program code adapted to display historical data regarding at least one of calorie counting, meal selection, meal suggestion, weight monitoring, weight loss or gain monitoring, fat consumption monitoring, sugar consumption monitoring and salt consumption monitoring. Numerous other embodiments are provided, as are methods, systems and computer program products.
- In one aspect, the present invention provides methods for suppressing cracking, stem browning, and water loss in fruit or vegetables, such as cherries. The methods comprise applying to fruit or vegetables an amount of a wax emulsion effective to suppress cherry cracking, stem browning, and water loss. The wax emulsion used in the methods of the invention typically comprises a matrix of complex hydrocarbons, one or more emulsifying agents, and water. In some embodiments, the wax emulsion comprises from about 0.125% to about 25% (weight/weight) of carnauba wax, from about 0.1% to about 16% (weight/weight) of oleic acid, and from about 0.03% to about 6% (weight/weight) of morpholine, and from about 53% to about 99.7% (weight/weight) of water. In some embodiments, the wax emulsions further comprise one or more osmoregulators.
- A method for creating a coffee drink that having the addition of a nutraceutical additive composition of milk thistle; chromium picolinate, and carnitine. Milk thistle is present from about 50 to 99.7 parts by weight of the total composition, and preferably 50 to 60 parts by weight. Chromium picolinate is present from about 0.01 to 0.23 parts by weight of the composition and preferably from 0.01 to 0.1 parts by weight. Carnitine is present from about 0 to 50 parts by weight of the total composition, and preferably 40 to 50 parts by weight. The coffee drink can be created by an admixture of the composition with ground beans, sprayed and/or coated on the bean prior to grinding, or added to a brewed much the same as one would add sugar or other known flavor additives. The instant composition does not subtract from the flavor and improves human physiology by assisting in weight loss, body cleansing, weight loss, fat burning, and sugar regulation.
- A welding material composition, which is a nickel based super alloy having ?' phase and chromium carbides precipitated. The composition comprising 18 to 25% by weight of Co, 15 to 20% by weight of Cr, 1.5 to 5.5% by weight of Al, 5 to 14% by weight of W, 0.05 to 0.15% by weight of C, 0 to 0.02% by weight of B, 0 to 1% by weight of at least one of Ta, Nb, Ti, Mo, Re and Fe, 0 to 0.5% by weight of at least one of V, Zr, rare earth elements and Y, 0 to 1% by weight of Mn, 0 to 0.5% by weight of Si, and the balance being Ni.
