- The systems and methods of this invention use an index and digital audio and/or video recordings of an activity to provide access to recently recorded material. For example, users initiate audio and/or video recordings. An index, e.g., an agenda, outlines the structure of the to be recorded event. The user selects an index item as an activity that corresponds to an index item is recorded. The recordings are then associated with the index. The user can then randomly access the recordings for playback, editing or further recording. The systems and methods of this invention additionally provide the means for correlating events and the corresponding index items with the recordings.
- A multicolor-printer has at least a first and a second print station, first and second optical sensors and a surface recordings comparator. The first and second print stations are arranged to print images on a surface of a moving recording medium. The first and second optical sensors view, at the first and second print stations, an area of the recording medium surface to obtain at least one first surface recording, in a manner related to the first print station's image printing, and second surface recordings, respectively. A storage is arranged to store the first surface recording. The surface recordings comparator is arranged to test, during the recording medium movement, for correspondence of second surface recordings with the stored first surface recording. The printer is arranged to repeatedly, within one image, register raster lines of the image of the second print station to corresponding raster lines of the image of the first print station in response to correspondences found between the first and second surface recordings.
- A method and system for the automatic identification of audio, video, multimedia, and/or data recordings based on immutable characteristics of these works. The invention does not require the insertion of identifying codes or signals into the recording. This allows the system to be used to identify existing recordings that have not been through a coding process at the time that they were generated. Instead, each work to be recognized is "played" into the system where it is subjected to an automatic signal analysis process that locates salient features and computes a statistical representation of these properties. These features are then stored as patterns for later recognition of live input signal streams. A different set of features is derived for each audio or video work to be identified and stored. During real-time monitoring of a signal stream, a similar automatic signal analysis process is carried out, and many features are computed for comparison with the patterns stored in a large feature database. For each particular pattern stored in the database, only the relevant characteristics are compared with the real-time feature set. Preferably, during analysis and generation of reference patterns, data are extracted from all time intervals of a recording. This allows a work to be recognized from a single sample taken from any part of the recording.
- A system and method for improving audio quality, by means of signal processing on a computer, during post-production of recordings is disclosed. A recording of a "chirp" tone at the beginning of a scene is followed by analysis of the recorded chirp on the computer. For the acoustic signature of the recorded chirp, the computer can characterize the acoustic environment in which the recording was made and use those characteristics to improve the remainder of the audio. The processing that can be achieved by the computer includes, but is not limited to, frequency response correction and acoustic echo cancellation. A physical device for generating the chirp may be pre-built into a video recorder or may be an add-on device placed in physical proximity to the video recorder while the chirp is generated.
- A method, system, and apparatus for easily creating a video collage from a video is provided. By segmenting the video into a set number of video segments and providing an interface for a user to select images which represent the video segments and insert the selected images into a video collage template, a video collage may be easily created in a short amount of time. The system is designed to assign values to the video inserted in a video collage and compact the video based on these values thereby creating a small file which may be easily stored or transmitted.
