Technical Examples
  1. A method and device for recording video on a record carrier (11), e.g. an optical disc. The information is arranged according to a recording format, e.g. DVD-video, for being playable in standardized players. The video information is subdivided into cells and playback parameters for reproducing sequences of the cells are included in control information. The format prescribes that within the recording area the control information precedes the video information for playback functions of the recorded video. However for home recording it is preferable that a recording is made in one pass, i.e. the video is to be recorded directly at its final location. Therefore the recorder has a control unit (20) for performing the following steps: first creating a free area (12) by selecting a starting point (13) within the recording area different from the beginning of the recording area, thereafter recording the real-time information from the starting point (13), and recording the control information in said free area (12).
  2. In an information recording and reproducing apparatus, information representative of first video contents is recorded on a recording medium. A decision is made as to whether or not a remaining usable capacity in the recording medium corresponds to longer than a predetermined time during the recording of the first video-contents information on the recording medium. When it is decided that the remaining usable capacity in the recording medium does not correspond to longer than the predetermined time, recorded information representative of second video contents is erased from the recording medium to increase the remaining usable capacity in the recording medium. Continuing the recording of the first video-contents information on the recording medium is enabled due to the erasing of the second video-contents information from the recording medium.
  3. A system and method for electronic communication with the hearing impaired is disclosed, which includes a video relay service having a video relay service application configured to receive the called party number over the first connection and request interpretive services. The video relay service application, initiates when interpretive services are available. The video relay service times a duration of concurrent connection of the first and second connections.
  4. The Digital Video Authenticator (DVA) addresses law enforcement concerns for a means to authenticate digital video (DV) so that it will be admissible and trusted as evidence in court. The DVA is a peripheral device attached to a commercial digital video recording device whose purpose is to generate and record authentication data simultaneously as DV is recorded by the video recording device. Verification of the authenticity of a DV sample will be accomplished using non-real-time software tools. The DVA system and method reads digital video (DV) data from a digital video recording device; parses the DV data into elements representing video, audio, control and timing data; and creates digital signatures that can be used to validate the original DV tape. The combination of secure digital signatures and repeatability of the DV data stored on tape provides the basis for proving the original video has not been modified.
  5. Disclosed is a video-signal recording & playback apparatus and method for recording and playing back a video signal of a television-broadcast program and a recording medium for storing a computer-readable program for controlling the video-signal recording & playback apparatus. A video-signal recording & playback apparatus includes a detection element for detecting relevant information related to a program being recorded and a modification element for automatically modifying an algorithm of detecting a program-representing picture in dependence of the relevant information.
