- A television and music distribution system is provided. Music programs are distributed over a number of analog and digital music channels to a number of users for playing by their user music equipment. Music information on the music program currently broadcasted on the music channels is provided in an in-band data stream on the channels. The user music equipment includes two tuners for providing users with the ability to listen to the music program on one channel while viewing the music information on another.
- In a music video game, a player's performance is digitally sampled while the player performs a musical composition. The player's performance is compared with a reference performance of the musical composition provided by the music video game. Performance feedback is presented to the player based on the results of the comparison. In some embodiments, sample times associated with digital samples of the player's live vocal performance are compared against timestamps of data records embedded or otherwise accompanying the reference performance audio track. Pitch and rhythm information is retrieved from the data record having a timestamp that most closely matches the sample time of interest. The pitch and rhythm data is used to compute pitch and rhythm errors, which are used to generate performance evaluation data. The performance evaluation data is used to present performance feedback to the player while the player is performing the musical composition.
- A method is provided for transmitting a plurality of informational video programs over a single digital transport stream to a plurality of receivers, wherein the receivers are operative to select from the transport stream data identified with any given program and to decode the identified data into a displayable video signal. The method consists of storing a plurality of the informational video programs, scheduling them along corresponding simultaneous time lines, rendering each program and encoding, according to standards, into a video stream, multiplexing the video streams in an interleaved manner, and formatting them to become the transport stream, wherein any of the operations of scheduling, rendering encoding and multiplexing are such that images, obtained by decoding transmitted data identified with any of the programs and displaying the resultant video signal, are essentially similar to those obtainable by rendering and encoding the programs separately, transmitting the respective encoded program alone over a similar transmission stream, decoding the transmitted data and displaying the resultant video signal.
- The present invention includes a system and a method for automatically authoring video compositions from longer units of digitized video (or a source video) by using short segments of video (or video "cliplets"). The video composition authoring process provides an aesthetically-pleasing layout of data elements to create a video composition. The data elements include multimedia elements, parameter information and description information. Any data elements that are missing but required are automatically selected by the system. The user may then review preliminary video composition results and refine the results if desired. The video composition authoring system includes an element selection and layout module for selecting the data elements in the video composition, and an iterative refinement module that allows the user to change and refine the preliminary results.
- The present invention provides a music search system for conducting music search, which allows the user to easily listen to music matched to situation. The music search system includes a music data storage section, a location acquisition section, a parameter converting section, a music search section, and a reproducing section. The music data storage section stores a plurality of pieces of music data so as to be associated with a corresponding one of music parameters. The location acquisition section acquires a situation parameter. The parameter converting section converts the situation parameter acquired by the location acquisition section into the music parameter. The music search section uses the music parameter resulted from conversion by the parameter converting section to search through the plurality of pieces of music data stored in the music storage section and selects a piece of music to be reproduced. The reproducing section reproduces the piece of music selected by the music search section.
