  1. The invention relates to a method and system for connecting subscribers participating in several telecommunication networks under one telephone number. The invention is characterized in that the subscriber data are stored in at least one telecommunication network and made available to the other telecommunication networks on request. To this end the invention provides for at least one of the telecommunication networks to have a data bank shared by all participating telecommunication networks.
  2. A network interface device located at a customer's premises includes an external interface that receives a plurality of telecommunication services via a coaxial connection from a telecommunication service provider. The services are received using Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications. The network interface device also includes at least two distinct internal interfaces that distribute the plurality of telecommunication services to at least two distinct internal transport media. The network interface device also includes a processor the is programmed to receive combined signals comprising the telecommunication services from the external interface, process the combined signals into separate signals representative of distinct telecommunication services, and map each of the separate signals to separate ones of the at least two distinct internal interfaces for distribution at the customer's premises via the internal transport media.
  3. A system and method for processing orders for telecommunication services received by a telecommunication services provider include receiving an electronic message in a first predefined format from a telecommunications customer, automatically processing the electronic message to identify information related to a telecommunications service offered by the telecommunications services provider, and automatically generating an order for the telecommunication service based on the information so as to reduce manual intervention. In one embodiment, the system and method automatically generate an order by separating information related to each telecommunication service from the electronic message and translating the first predetermined format into a second predetermined format to facilitate further processing by the telecommunications services provider. Information relative to the order is generated by the services provider and converted to the first format before being forwarded to the customer. The telecommunications services provider may communicate with the telecommunications customers using a TCP/IP connection.
  4. Directory assistance provides telephone number look up services to callers based on the business or caller name as listed in a telephone directory. In the prior art, directory assistance provides a value-added service to telephone users and an expense that must be charged back to telephone callers or absorbed by telephone carriers. In enhanced directory assistance (EDA) services as described in the disclosure, EDA is further developed to deliver a keyword targeted advertising service to telephone listing owners and advertisers. The present invention provides a method and system to extend EDA services to the wireless messaging systems used by telecommunications operators. The invention further discloses methods to support both one-way and two-way communications on these devices, as well as systems to support the distributed EDA Transaction business model.
  5. A telecommunication system intended for providing telecommunication services at a semiconductor manufacturing plant under the circumstances of shielded areas of clean rooms comprises a GSM base station installed at the plant and equipped with a plurality of low power antennas, a private branch exchange and at least two dedicated lines of E1 type connecting the base station and the PBX to a public switched telephone network. Software incorporated in the base station and PBX allows for telecommunication connections set up at the plant to use abbreviated four-digit numbers for both wireless mobile stations and wired stations, while keeping the possibility to reach a mobile station, even if it is outside the plant at the time of the connection, dialing the abbreviated four-digit number.
