Technical Examples
- A sprinkler head having a deformable member forming a collar is disclosed. The deformable member allows the sprinkler head to resist entry of foreign grit or matter within the sprinkler head, and allows the sprinkler head to eject or force out foreign matter from within the sprinkler head. The sprinkler head may be a spinning sprinkler head including a vane deflector, and the spinning sprinkler head may include a portion that shifts in response to being struck by water such that a braking mechanism is engaged in response to the force of the water. When water flow ceases, the spinning head may shift towards the deformable member so that a portion of the spinning head is received within the deformable member to restrict foreign matter from entering the sprinkler head.

It is another aspect of the present invention to provide a plastic pick up truck box with a light-duty truck dumping mechanism for pick-up trucks utilizing plastic molded truck box beds, with the tilting mechanism being used to dump the contents out of the pick-up truck box bed. Another embodiment of the invention includes a double-folding tailgate/ramp which can be utilized to extend to the ground in order to allow for easy carrying and loading of a pick-up box. The combination of the plastic molded pick-up truck box bed having inserts therein with a hydraulic stanchion support and dumping mechanism yields a light-duty truck which can be used for dumping. Although in its most simple form, a singular stanchion and hydraulic dumping mechanism may be utilized, more than one stanchion and hydraulic lifting mechanism may also be utilized.
- A tool and a method for installing a sprinkler head in a threaded fitting of a fire suppression system is disclosed. The sprinkler head is protected by a cover. The tool is formed from an elongated body having a cavity that is sized to receive the cover. One end of the body interfaces with a wrench, the other end has one or more axially extending slots sized to receive the fingers of a torque plate affixed to the sprinkler head. The sprinkler head has a threaded nipple that engages the threaded fitting. The nipple is engaged with the fitting and torque is applied to it by engaging the slots of the tool with the fingers and turning the tool with the wrench. The tool has an external index allowing the sprinkler head to be angularly oriented to direct its discharge stream.
