STORAGE WHERE SYSTEM ACCESS IS
Technical Examples
- Conventionally, when a switch virtualizing a storage (storage virtualization switch) is installed in a computer system including an SAN, a host computer, and a storage device, since a port ID of a virtual storage and a port ID of a storage device assigned to the virtual storage are different, the computer system has to be suspended at the time of installation of the storage virtualization switch. According to one embodiment of the invention, the storage virtualization switch installed in the computer system assigns a port ID to a port of a virtual storage generated by the storage virtualization switch so as to be equivalent to a port ID of an existing storage device and, in the case in which the port ID is designated as an access destination by an access request from one computer to the storage device, sends the access request to the virtual storage.
- A storage apparatus configuration in a three data center architecture comprises first and second data storage systems, and a remote data storage system. The first data storage systems can copy an image of data stored therein to the remote data storage system without affecting access to storage in the first data storage system. The second data storage system is configured to perform a takeover operation if the first data storage system becomes unavailable.
- A method for managing data stored in a hierarchical storage unit of a storage apparatus is disclosed. The storage unit includes a first storage medium having a first access speed and a second storage medium having a second access speed. The first access speed is different from the second access speed. The method comprises determining a first access frequency for information of first type, the first access frequency being associated with a first period of past time. A second access frequency of the information of first type is determined. The second access frequency is associated with a second period of past time and is different than the first access frequency. At least a portion of the information of first type is transferred from the first storage medium to the second storage medium prior to a second period based on the second access frequency determined in the determining-a-second-access-frequency step, the second period corresponding to the second period of past time.
- A low-latency storage memory system is built from multiple memory units such as high-density random access memory. Multiple access ports provide access to memory units and send the resultant data out interface ports. The memory units communicate with the access ports through an interconnected mesh to allow any access port to access any memory unit. An address virtualization mechanism using address translators allows any access port of the memory storage system to access requested data as abstract objects without regard for the physical memory unit that the data is located in, or the absolute memory addresses within that memory unit.
- A data carrier (1) intended for the storage of data in memory means (17) has a first memory access means (18) for accessing a first storage location (22) and has a second memory access means (33) for accessing a second storage location (23), the first storage location (22) being only accessible by the first memory access means (18) with the aid of access enabling means (21, 19, 37, 39), and further has an additional memory access means (38), so as to enable an access authorization for the access to the first storage location (22) and so as to enable access to the first storage location (22) during an access by the second memory access means (33).
