- A storage device, which comprises a storage media, a spindle motor which spins the storage media, a head unit which records and reads the data to the storage media, an actuator which carries out the positioning operation to the head unit on the storage media, a loading and unloading system which controls the actuator and carries out the unload operation that withdraws the head unit from the storage media and the loading operation that shifts the head unit onto the storage media, and a measurement means which measures the unloading energy required for the unload operation.
- A storage subsystem, method of testing storage media in the storage subsystem and program product therefor. The storage media, e.g., magnetic tape in a physical volume, is inserted into an input area in the storage subsystem, but not loaded into the subsystem library. The media input area on the physical volume is scanned and a test command is queued. The test storage media is moved to a drive for testing. After testing, the storage media is returned to the input area.
- A data storage library for storing a storage media, wherein a plurality of accessors accesses the data storage media stored in an array of storage cells includes a first accessor transporting the storage media, the first accessor including a first carriage storing or retrieving the storage media on to the storage cell and a first guide guiding the first carriage moving vertically; a second accessor transporting the storage media, the second accessor including a second carriage storing or retrieving the storage media on to the storage cell and a second guide guiding the second carriage moving vertically; and a third guide guiding the first accessor and the second accessor moving horizontally. The first carriage opposes the second carriage and the first and second carriages are in a staggered configuration, when the first guide exists between the array and the second guide.
- A computerized method for sharing removable storage media in a network, the method comprising associating, in an index entry, a first piece of removable storage media in a first storage device with at least a first storage policy copy and a second storage policy copy; copying, to the first piece of removable storage media, data associated with the first storage policy copy; and copying, to the first piece of removable storage media, data associated with the second storage policy copy.
- A storage system includes a storage controller and storage media for reading data from or writing data to the storage media in response to block-level and file-level I/O requests. The storage controller includes suitable interfaces for receiving the read/write requests and effecting the reading of data to or the writing of data to the storage media.
