Technical Examples
  1. A music apparatus has a data storage, a controller and a sound generator for reproducing a music sound and a voice sound. The data storage stores a music data file containing a music part and a voice part, the music part containing a sequence of music generation events effective to instruct generation of the music sound, the voice part containing voice reproduction sequence data composed of a combination of voice reproduction event data and duration data, the voice reproduction event data instructing reproduction of a sequence of voice events, the duration data specifying a timing of effecting a voice event in terms of a duration time measured from another voice event preceding to the voice event. The controller reads out the music data file from the data storage. The sound generator operates based on the music part contained in the read music data file for generating the music sound representative of the sequence of the music events, and operates based on the voice part contained in the read music data file for generating the voice sound representative of the sequence of the vice events, thereby mixing and outputting the music sound and the voice sound.
  2. A machine readable code (e.g., digital watermark or bar code) conveyed with objects is used in establishing links to associated electronic resources, such as web pages. The object can be physical (e.g., a magazine page) or electronic (e.g., music data). The associated electronic resource can be a web site from which goods or services (e.g., music) may be offered for sale.
  3. Music is blanket transmitted (for example, via satellite downlink transmission) to each customer's user station where selected music files are recorded. Customers preselect from a list of available music in advance using an interactive screen selector, and pay only for music that they choose to playback for their enjoyment. An antipiracy "ID tag" is woven into the recorded music so that any illegal copies therefrom may be traced to the purchase transaction. Music is transmitted on a fixed schedule or through an active scheduling process that monitors music requests from all or a subset of satellite receivers and adjust scheduling according to demand for various CD's. Receivers store selections that are likely to be preferred by a specific customer. In those instances where weather conditions, motion of atmospheric layers or dish obstructions result in data loss, the system downloads the next transmission of the requested CD and uses both transmissions to produce a "good copy". In conjunction with the blanket transmission of more popular music, an automated CD manufacturing facility may be provided to manufacture CD's that are not frequently requested and distribute them by ground transportation.
  4. A television and music distribution system is provided. Music programs are distributed over a number of analog and digital music channels to a number of users for playing by their user music equipment. Music information on the music program currently broadcasted on the music channels is provided in an in-band data stream on the channels. The user music equipment includes two tuners for providing users with the ability to listen to the music program on one channel while viewing the music information on another.
  5. A system and method of providing for the control of a music player to a device driver. One embodiment of the system comprises an electronic music player that is connected to a plurality of music renderers via device drivers via a music renderer controller. The music renderer controller comprises a device integration application program interface for providing a standard interface for communicating with each of the device drivers. Each of the device drivers manage a selected music renderer. The device drivers can display a graphical interface for displaying notifications, customized controls, links to websites, or any other type of information desired by the manufacturer of the device driver. The device drivers can also customize the interfaces of the music render to rename textual elements that are displayed by the device driver. Furthermore, the device drivers can command the music player to suspend and resume playback of music items during selected periods.
