  1. An automatic slide feeder according to one embodiment of the present invention may comprise a housing configured to define an input slide tray, an output slide tray and a scan slide tray. A slide actuator operatively associated with the housing moves a slide from the input slide tray to the scan slide tray. A control system operatively associated with the slide actuator and a document scanner operates the document scanner to scan a slide positioned in the scan slide tray and operates the slide actuator to move a new slide from the input slide tray to the scan slide tray after the slide positioned in the scan slide tray has been scanned.
  2. A resource management method (300) and a corresponding system are proposed. In the solution of the invention, an authority publishes (324) multiple rules, each one defining a desired target configuration for a category of subjects (without any information about their dependencies). Each subject retrieves (320-322, 326) the rules corresponding to its category in a random order. The rules are then applied (427-439) on the subject according to a trial-and-fail approach. Particularly, the application of any failed rule is continually repeated (427-448), until all the rules are successfully applied (463) or a deadlock condition is detected (451). In this way, any dependency is automatically resolved on the subject at run time. Moreover, as soon as all the rules have been successfully applied the compliance of the subject to the rules is verified (455-457) again; should the subject be not compliant to one or more rules any longer, an infinite loop condition is detected (466).
  3. The present invention is a system and method for allowing an administrator of a computer network higher up in a hierarchical arrangement to define the scope of policies for the services offered, and users lower in the hierarchical arrangement to customize policies within the scope defined by the administrator. While defining policy rules, administrators classify them as scoping or non-scoping. Users lower in the hierarchical arrangement can then customize scoping rules by defining sub-rules. Policy rules have a condition part and an action part, and the sub-rules can be used to change the scope of the condition and action parts. The present invention adds all the non-scoping policy rules, all the scoping policy rules, and all the sub-rules (with their scope limited by the scoping rules) to a rules database. This rules database is then used by any policy enforcement engine to enforce policy rules.
  4. Apparatus and methods for controlling the fluid on a slide are provided. Fluid reduction is accomplished by directing stream(s) of fluid at an edge of the slide, the streams of fluid being at an angle with the slide of less than 90°. The surface tension at the edge of the slide is broken by the stream(s). And, the fluid which is on the slide is drawn or pulled by the streams of liquid, thereby reducing the fluid on the slide to a reproducible, consistent level.
  5. A method, computer program product, and apparatus for parsing consecutive sentences which includes tokenizing the words of the sentence and putting them through an iterative inductive processor. The processor has access to at least a first and second set of rules. The rules narrow the possible syntactic interpretations for the words in the sentence. After exhausting application of the first set of rules, the program moves to the second set of rules. The program reiterates back and forth between the sets of rules until no further reductions in the syntactic interpretation can be made. Thereafter, deductive token merging is performed if needed.
