Technical Examples
  1. A book on demand system for manufacturing a set books. The system includes an order placement system and a book manufacturing system. The order placement system includes a computer and a database for storing books in an electronic form. A customer can operate the computer to access the database and to select a set of books to purchase. In addition, the customer can define the storage space will be used to store the set of books. The computer responds to this customer input by manufacturing the set of books so that the books can be placed physically within the storage space.
  2. A television and music distribution system is provided. Music programs are distributed over a number of analog and digital music channels to a number of users for playing by their user music equipment. Music information on the music program currently broadcasted on the music channels is provided in an in-band data stream on the channels. The user music equipment includes two tuners for providing users with the ability to listen to the music program on one channel while viewing the music information on another.
  3. For the purpose of delivering, in the lying-flat condition, book blocks or books which are fed in, standing on their back or on the front cut and at defined timing intervals along their height, from a preceding machine in a transport path, provision is made, according to the method, for the books to be picked up, in accordance with the timing, in the transport path, swung out transversely to the direction of infeed and transferred into a defined delivery position which is spaced apart from the transport path, and is essentially a lying-flat position and from which said books can be fed to subsequent machines synchronously with the timing. The device for performing the method includes a continuously driven clamping conveyer consisting of traction means conveyers which act counter to one another and clamp the books in between them and convey them as far as the picking-up position, a transporting band which still carries the books even in the picking-up position, at least one gripper which clamps the books in the picking-up position and, after the picking-up operation, swings them into the delivery position spaced apart from the transport path and deposits the said books at that point, and a belt conveyer which feeds the books out of said delivery position.
  4. The present invention provides a music search system for conducting music search, which allows the user to easily listen to music matched to situation. The music search system includes a music data storage section, a location acquisition section, a parameter converting section, a music search section, and a reproducing section. The music data storage section stores a plurality of pieces of music data so as to be associated with a corresponding one of music parameters. The location acquisition section acquires a situation parameter. The parameter converting section converts the situation parameter acquired by the location acquisition section into the music parameter. The music search section uses the music parameter resulted from conversion by the parameter converting section to search through the plurality of pieces of music data stored in the music storage section and selects a piece of music to be reproduced. The reproducing section reproduces the piece of music selected by the music search section.
  5. A method and system for automatic classification of music is disclosed. A music piece is received and analyzed to determine whether the received music piece includes sounds of human singing. Based on the received music piece, the music piece can be classified as singing or instrumental music. Each of the singing music pieces can be further classified as chorus or a vocal solo piece, and the vocal solo pieces can be additionally classified by gender and voice. The instrumental music pieces are analyzed to determine whether the music piece is that of a symphony or that of a solo artist or small group of artists. The classification and storage of music pieces can be user controlled.
