- A system includes a global positioning system that tracks and monitors the school and daycare transportation, a plurality of barcode scanners which enter the children into the system and a plurality of barcode bracelets, with a barcode bracelet provided to each of the children that is scanned with the plurality of barcode scanners when a child is entering onto and coming off of the school and daycare transportation. There is also a plurality of school stations that enter and remove the drivers from the system and a central control center that constantly monitors the plurality of school stations and the global positioning system, the plurality of barcode scanners and the plurality of barcode bracelets.
- An electronic copy of a paper document, such as high school transcript, can be attached to an electronic document, such as an application for admission to an institution. The high school providing the paper document is required to have only a simple fax machine. When a student requests that a transcript accompany an electronic application, a request for the transcript is automatically generated by the application servicer and transmitted to the high school. The request includes a return facsimile cover sheet that includes an identifier that can be automatically machine-interpreted when the cover sheet is transmitted back to the servicer with the transcript. The identifier marking is sufficiently robust that it will be machine interpretable, even after rough treatment or serial copying and transmission by the high school. Upon receipt of the transcript facsimile, the servicer automatically interprets the identifying information on the return facsimile cover sheet to identify the student and the particular admissions application for which the transcript was request. The transcript is forwarded preferably along with application to the appropriate institution after being converted, if necessary, to a data format specified by the institution. The servicer may also store the transcript in electronic form in a secure database for subsequent transmission for a different term or to different institution. Each facsimile cover sheet is preferably "branded" with the logo of the institution to which the student is applying, although the return facsimile number is preferably a toll free number to a computer facsimile server of the servicer. Thus, the servicer can be invisible to the high school.
- A school-wide notification and response system utilizes an administrator interface to transmit a message from an administrator to a contact devices for employees and parents associated with a school. The system comprises a dynamic information database that includes parent and employee contact data, priority information, and response data. The administrator initiates distribution of the message based upon grouping information, priority information, and the priority order. The message is transmitted through at least two industry standard gateways simultaneously to groups of parent and employee contact devices based upon priority information. Once the message is received by the parent and employee contact devices, the parent and employee contact devices transmit a response through the industry standard gateways back to the dynamic information database.
- A system and method for the automated sequencing of certain operations when a vehicle, such as a school bus, (10) approaches a railroad crossing where it is required to stop before proceeding across the crossing. A devoted switch (28) is actuated by the driver to initiate the sequence. After stopping, vehicle speed or distance traveled is used to restore conditions of various devices whose operation was affected by the initial switch actuation.
- A system and methods of virtual schooling, which provide an Internet-based elementary and secondary school that is committed to offering a complete and comprehensive education to all pupils. The curriculum used in the system and methods is Web-deployed and database-driven. Its subjects include, but are not necessarily limited to History/Civics/Geography, Language Arts, Math, Music, Science, and Visual Arts. Preferably, lessons should integrate on-line and off-line instructional materials for a well-rounded learning experience.
