- A method for scrolling MPEG-compressed pictures consists in decoding a sequence of pictures (34, 35, 36) or any two pictures to be viewed by a MPEG decoder (5) and storing the sequence of pictures (35, 35, 36) or any two pictures in MPEG decoder memory. Then the sequence of pictures (34, 35, 36) or any two pictures is formed as a group of pictures (37), which is transferred to the first screen buffer (24) which is active. In the following step, any another compressed picture, after decoding in the MPEG decoder (5), is stored in a MPEG decoder memory as a decoder new picture and then is transferred from the MPEG decoder memory to the first screen buffer (24), where its edge line perpendicular to the intended scrolling direction is adjoined to the external edge of the group of pictures (37). The new picture is placed outside the viewing area and next the entire viewing area is shifted until the marginal picture lying at the opposite side of the group of pictures (37) in relation to the adjoined new picture is removed from the viewing area (21), and the newly decoded picture is placed in this area.
- Moving pictures are reproduced from a stored moving-picture signal and output at a set reproduction speed. The stored moving-picture signal is reproduced in accordance with the set reproduction speed to obtain first interlaced pictures. The first interlaced pictures are converted to obtain first progressive pictures. Moving pictures to be displayed are selected from the first progressive pictures per frame in accordance with the set reproduction speed to obtain second progressive pictures. Scanning lines of the second progressive pictures are decimated so that the number of remaining scanning lines of the second progressive pictures after decimation is equal to the number of scanning lines of interlaced pictures to be displayed, thus outputting second interlaced pictures. The first interlaced pictures are output when the set reproduction speed is the first reproduction speed whereas the second interlaced pictures are output when the set reproduction speed is the second reproduction speed.
- A video coding and decoding method, wherein a picture is first divided into sub-pictures corresponding to one or more subjectively important picture regions and to a background region sub-picture, which remains after the other sub-pictures are removed from the picture. The sub-pictures are formed to conform to predetermined allowable groups of video coding macroblocks (MBs). The allowable groups of MBs can be, for example, of rectangular shape. The picture is then divided into slices so that each sub-picture is encoded independent of other sub-pictures except for the background region sub-picture, which may be coded using another sub-pictures. The slices of the background sub-picture are formed in a scan-order with skipping over MBs that belong to another sub-picture. The background sub-picture is only decoded if all the positions and sizes of all other sub-pictures can be reconstructed on decoding the picture.
- A disc storage unit includes a case, a tray supported by the case and configured to support an array of discs in respective parallel vertical planes across which respective coaxial axes of the discs pass horizontally. There is a disc-raising mechanism having a finger activatable to lift one of the discs from the tray within its respective plane to thereby render that disc non-coaxial with other discs that might be supported by the tray. The storage unit also includes an indexing mechanism that is configured to cause the disc-raising mechanism to raise others of the discs in a like manner. This enables labels of the raised discs to be viewed for selection by a user.
- The sheet shredder includes a cutter block pair equipped with plural cutter discs arranged in parallel with each other at a specified distance, cutting units to cut sheets by rotating the cutter discs of the cutter block pair in the different directions respectively, guide plates to guide cut pieces of sheets cut by the cutter discs in the specified direction, and grooves provided at the sides opposite to the cutter discs of the guide plates to lead out stickum adhered to the cutter discs or the guide plates pursuant to the sheet cutting operation.
