  1. A rotary rehabilitation apparatus for rehabilitation of a person's extremity, including the joints and assorted muscles, tendons, ligaments, that can be tailored to the person's needs based upon their physical size, type of injury, and plan for recovery. The apparatus facilitates the adjustment of the range of motion of the user's extremity in a cycling action by offsetting a moveable lever from a fixed lever at a plurality of angles. As the user's extremity moves in a circular path, the extremity engages in extension and flexion to cause movements in the articulations formed at the user's joints.
  2. A modular exoskeletal device adapted to fit the lower extremities of a patient during rehabilitation. The device has only two actuators during the standing stage of rehabilitation. Two additional actuators can be added, as modules, during the walking stage of rehabilitation. The actuators are affixed to the patient and provide controlled motion to at least one of the joints of the patient. A stationary control unit is separated from the patient. The control unit communicates with and directs the actuators, and has a hybrid control algorithm, such that the actuator forces are adjusted as the patient regains control of some joint motions, which is based upon the sliding-mode control theory. A back brace is affixed to the patient and helps to keep the torso of the patient in a stable, substantially vertical position.

In accordance with a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method for detecting a defect on a portion of an element comprising the steps of: acquiring an image of said portion; analyzing said image to highlight problematic regions of said portion; calculating a probability that said problematic region is a defect; if said probability is higher than a threshold value, determining a position of said defect on said element. Another method for classifying a defect on an element is provided. The method comprises: acquiring an image of said defect; calculating a probability that said defect corresponds to one of a series of types of defects; if said probability is higher than a threshold value, determining that said defect is a defect of that particular type. Another method for recommending a most suitable rehabilitation technique for a defect is provided. The method comprises: identifying a series of parameters corresponding to said defect; calculating a relative utility for each of a series of potential rehabilitation techniques using rehabilitation profiles; determining a most suitable rehabilitation technique for said defect corresponding to a highest value of said relative utility.
  4. A rehabilitation and fitness trainer apparatus includes a handle frame of generally U-shaped configuration, with two telescopic members attached at an angle to the base of the U-shaped handle portion, a generally U-shaped base frame including an elongated cross bar and two side members which extend rearwardly and at an outwardly extending angle from the elongated cross bar, and with the cross bar including a pair of elongated members that extend generally upwardly and rearwardly for cooperating and telescopingly engaging the pair of telescopic members extending from the handle frame. A locking device is provided for vertically adjusting and maintaining the vertical distance between the handle frame and the base frame in order to accommodate a wide variety of users of the apparatus.
  5. N-(Pyridinyl)-1H-indol-1-amines of formula I provide a unique combination of blocking properties for both the potassium and sodium channels. These compounds are useful for the treatment of Demyelinating Diseases and Conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke.
