Technical Examples
  1. A real-time music information retrieval system and methods for providing desired music information via text message to radio or television stations listeners through wireless communication devices. Listeners could retrieve information for the song that is currently being played at the radio and television station, or the songs that have previously been played. A system and method is provided to automatically send an alert message the radio and television station listeners of upcoming music broadcasting events.
  2. An interactive television system displays a television program having an associated channel. The system also displays an interactive television mode indicator if the displayed television program supports an interactive television mode. The interactive television mode is activated in response to a request from a viewer of the television program to activate the interactive television mode. The system updates a channel status list to indicate that the television program is being viewed in the interactive television mode. The system is also able to handle requests for activating an online television mode. When changing channels, the channel status list is used to restore a previously activated interactive television mode or online television mode for a particular television channel. Two different indicators may be displayed to indicate whether the television program supports an interactive television mode and/or an online television mode.
  3. A method for managing television presentation recordings includes determining if a television presentation corresponding to a television presentation listing is scheduled to be recorded, assigning a color to the television presentation listing responsive to determining that the television presentation is scheduled to be recorded, and presenting the television presentation listing to a user.
  4. The presence of the non-television transmission within a channel is used to indicate that secondary non-licensed usage of the channel is permitted. Specifically, if secondary users incorporate the means to identify the unique modulation signature of the secondary user, decoding of a beacon signal may not be necessary. With the above in mind, a radio will be prevented from transmitting within a frequency band when no transmission within the licensed spectrum is currently taking place; the licensee is currently transmitting on the spectrum (e.g., television transmissions are taking place utilizing the spectrum, or the radio cannot sense the presence of a data channel (beacon).
  5. An object of the present invention is to switch a television signal or an FM broadcasting signal by a small number of active elements, to input the switched television signal or FM broadcasting signal to an input tuning circuit, to reduce loss in the television signal when the television signal is received, and to reduce interference due to the FM broadcasting signal when the television signal is received.
