PORTABLE COMPUTERS PROVIDED WITH DISPLAY
Technical Examples
- A mobile teaching system is disclosed which allows the use of personal computing devices in a learning environment. A plurality of portable computers may communicate with a portable network center to undergo lesson plans, testing, and other educational tasks. The portable computers may be stored in a mobile storage unit that may also serve as a network communications center, and may also provide power connections for the computers. The computers may include removable, rechargeable batteries, which may be recharged at the storage unit.
- A system and method for handling a query seeking information about computers of a network, where the query can be optimized in a way which limits the set of computers examined to a set smaller than all known computers. The query is examined to determine a limited list of computers to be accessed that would yield the complete result. If the query can be satisfied using data from a number of computers which is less than all of the computers in the network, then the number of computers which is less than all of the computers in the network is accessed to satisfy the query. In this manner, the data collection process for satisfying the query is generally more efficient than accessing all of the computers in the network.
- A switching device and system for interconnecting a single user console having user interface devices, including a console keyboard, a console video display unit, a console mouse, and speakers to a plurality of host computers each capable of using user interface devices, including a keyboard, a video display unit, and a mouse, and allowing the user to access one or more of the host computers from the single user console. The video output from each of the host computers are scaled and cropped as appropriate so that each of the host computer's video output may be simultaneously displayed as host computer "windows" on the console video display unit. The user may easily navigate between the host computers through a convenient and intuitive user interface. The audio output from each of the host computers may be mixed or switched for output to the speakers as desired.
- The invention provides a portable information terminal, such as a notebook PC, including light-emitting elements entirely having longer lives (a double-sided display panel having longer lives) and allowing lower power consumption with a double-sided display panel having a first screen on one surface of a substrate in the portable information terminal, such as a notebook PC, and a second screen on the other surface of the substrate on the opposite side of the first screen. In this case, light emission intensities and aperture ratios of the first and second screens may be differentiated for different applications of the first and second screens. One of the first screen and second screen may implement multi-color display, and the other may implement monochrome display. The double-sided display panel may be used in a lid of a portable information terminal, such as a notebook PC, and a touch-panel function may be provided thereto. Thus, a portable terminal such as PC can be manipulated easily even with the lid closed. Therefore, the portable terminal can be used easily even on the move.
- To provide a portable information processing system with which downsizing and increase in display capacity may be realized. The portable information processing system according to the present invention displays, on an HMD (head mount display) worn by a user on his or her head, an image displayed on a display portion of a portable information terminal. The system employs wireless information transmitting/receiving means such as infrarer-ray data communication or data communication by radio wave to transmit and receive information between the portable information terminal and the HMD.
