- A plastic product for particular use as grab handles, door closure handles, and other trim and component products. A foam core, either structural or non-structural, is over-molded with a hard or soft plastic shell or skin. Structural members for heat staking, mechanical fastenings, and the like, are integrally formed on the ends of the handles in order to affix the handles to a door pillar, door panel, or the like.
- The present invention is a hand tool comprising a pair of handles that rotate about a pivot point. The proximal end of the handles may be covered in an electrically insulating material in order to aid in insulating the hands of the user from electrical shock and cushion the grip of the tool. A jaw member of thin cross-section may be affixed to the distal end of the handles or formed in the distal end of the handles. The unique shape of the portion of each jaw member grips the locknut. Each jaw member is designed in such a manner that, when the hand tool's handles are closed, each jaw member independently engages one or more of the locknut protrusions. A method of tightening and loosening locknuts using a hand tool with the distal end of the handles forming a shaped jaw member for gripping the locknut.
- A cuticle cutter of the like is described which is of the scissors type. Instruments of this type, especially in beauty salons, require constant cleaning, sharpening and sterilisation. The cutter of the invention facilitates such procedures by permitting the handles (2, 21) to be separate from the blades (1, 1'). In the preferred embodiment the blades are snap fitted into the handles and the arrangement is such that on opening the cutters to a maximum surfaces on the handles enter into abutment with the blades in the region of the pivot (6) and further opening cams the blades away from the handles, releasing them without any necessity for manual contact. The blades can then be submitted to the above mentioned procedures and stored for further use.
- When a Bézier spline is fitted to a plurality of points the two tangent handles at each control point can be very different in length. A method of fitting a second spline to the first spline that has tangent handles of equal length at each control point is provided. A point is found on the first spline that is close to the midpoint between the two control points defining the tangent handles. This point is a new control point on the second spline. Tangent handles to the new control point are then found such that they have a slope equal to the tangent to the first spline at the new control point, the sum of their lengths is equal to the sum of the original two tangent handles and their lengths are equal to each other. A second spline found in this way closely approximates the first spline. The lengths of the tangent handles may be adjusted to provide a better fit.
- A rubber insulating blanket of a type used by workers, such as electrical lineworkers and industrial electricians, to cover live electrical conductors, apparatus, or circuits, so as to protect themselves against electrical shock hazards, is generally square or otherwise generally rectangular, so as to have two longitudinal edges and two transverse edges. The blanket is provided with four handles, each of which is located at the middle of a separate edge of the blanket. If the blanket has eyelets located near the middles of the longitudinal edges, the eyelets so located are located between the handles located at those same portions. Being unitary with the remainder of the blanket and having outer portions projecting outwardly from the edges where the handles are located, the handles do not interfere with rolling of the blanket, as for storage of the blanket in a canister. If equipped with the blanket, a worker can manipulate the blanket easily, via the handles, even while the worker is working on a pole, on a ladder, or in an elevated bucket. A group of such blankets, if stacked so that their handles have aligned openings, can be easily manipulated by a worker or workers.
