  1. Maternity wear of the invention accommodates the changing shape of a woman's body during pregnancy, minimizing the need for maternity clothes. In one aspect of the invention, pants or a skirt are worn with the upper end unfastened so as to conform to the shape of the swelling torso in pregnancy, and an elastic band shaped similarly to a tube top is worn generally around the waist, so as to overlap the top of the unfastened pants or skirt and retain them on the body. A top, such as a blouse or shirt, can be worn with its tail end extending over the band. In another aspect of the invention, too-large maternity clothing is worn with the band garment engaged over the upper end. If desired the band garment can be folded over on itself, thus doubling its thickness.
  2. Disclosed is a maternity biodata measurement system, wherein a sum of a pre-pregnancy energy expenditure and a pregnancy extra energy amount of a subject is determined as an energy amount necessary for the subject in a pregnancy period. In particular, the pregnancy extra energy amount is determined based on pre-pregnancy body-mass index data and elapsed pregnancy-period data about the subject, so as to allow the necessary energy amount to be determined as a value appropriate for the subject. The maternity biodata measurement system of the present invention makes it possible to measure a necessary energy amount for a pregnant woman on an individual basis.
  3. The method of the invention produces modified milk protein concentrates using cation exchange to replace divalent ions with monovalent ions. The modified milk protein concentrate produced may be converted into a gel which may be a cheese-like product itself, or used to make end products such as cheeses, cheese-like products, savory products, desserts, confectionary products and intermediate food products.
  4. The present invention features legume products having trypsin inhibitory activity and reduced microbial content, methods of decontaminating such legume products, compositions containing such legume products, and the topical application of such legume products or compositions to skin, nails, and hair.
  5. The methods of the present invention prepare carrageenan products from processed seaweed material having a solids content of less than 25% by weight solids, using shear stress treatment. The carrageenan products comprise at least about 60% by weight of carrageenan and at least about 2% by weight of acid insoluble material. The carrageenan products of the present invention are useful as components in food products, such as, dairy products, meats, and dessert gels as well as non-food products, such as, toothpaste formulations, cosmetics, paints, films and delivery capsules.
