Technical Examples
- A modified asphalt composition is provided comprising at least one plastomer, at least one elastomer, at least one crosslinking agent and asphalt. More specifically, a modified asphalt composition is provided comprising an oxidized polyethylene, a styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer, sulfur, and asphalt. A hot mix asphalt composition is also provided comprising the modified asphalt composition and aggregate. Processes for producing the modified asphalt composition and the hot mix asphalt composition are also provided as well as articles produced from these inventive compositions.
- An hydroponic/aeroponic agricultural unit that involves sealing the plants in a highly water saturated environment which more closely recreates the feel of natural rainwater. Also, this invention features the ability of quickly changing from a small housing into a larger housing by varying the diameter of a drum so that a small drum can act as a nursery for seedlings. Once the seedlings have turned into plants, the drum is made larger. The plurality of planks making up the drum can be positioned close to the lamp when they are small and farther away when larger. A simple yet reliable system allows for the rotation of the drum.
- Disclosed are a thermoplastic polymer-linked-asphalt composition and a process for making a thermoplastic polymer-linked-asphalt. More particularly, the present invention relates to the reaction and resultant linking of a combination of epoxide-containing polymers and anhydride-containing polymers to asphalt to form a polymer-linked-asphalt composition having higher softening points. The improved polymer-linked-asphalt product is particularly useful in roofing applications.
- Asphalt-based coating compositions and surfactants. The asphalt-based coating compositions have improved performance and comprise asphalt, clay, and a propoxylated alcohol-based ether amine salt surfactant.
- The present invention provides a method for preparing an asphalt and thermoplastic elastomer composition. The process comprises heating an asphalt cut in a stirred tank to a temperature sufficient to allow the stirring of the asphalt in the tank. A thermoplastic elastomer or rubber is added to the asphalt while continuing to stir the asphalt. The mixture is stirred at a speed and for a period of time sufficient to increase the distribution of the elastomer into the asphalt. The stirring speed is reduced and the temperature is increased to add crosslinking agents to the tank. Stirring is continued for a period of time sufficient to improve the distribution of the crosslinking agent dispersion in the asphalt. Crosslinking agents include compositions of mercaptobenzothiazole, zinc oxide and elemental sulfur; compositions of mercaptobenzothiazole, zinc oxide, and mixed polythiomorpholine; and compositions of zinc 2-mercaptobenzothiazole and dithiodimorpholine.
