Technical Examples
- Particle flaking is reduced in a semiconductor wafer processing apparatus by installing a chamber shield assembly in the chamber of the apparatus. The shield assembly includes a plurality of nested shields that are supported out of contact with each other and suspended such that, during thermal expansion and contraction, gaps are maintained that are sufficient to avoid arcing. Alignment structure on the shields and on the chamber walls force the shields to align concentrically and maintain the gaps. The shields are made of aluminum or another thermally conductive material and have cross-sectional areas large enough to provide high thermal conductivity throughout the shields. Mounting flanges and other mounting surfaces are provided on the shields that form intimate thermal contact with sufficient contacting area to insure high thermal conductivity from the shields to the temperature controlled walls of the chamber. Radiant lamps of an array are spaced around the chamber and extend vertically to expose multiple shields across large areas to heat for pre-heating bake-out of the shields and to eliminate thermal shock upon processing the first wafer of a run.
- External ocular shields for protecting a patient's eyes from medical treatment radiation energy such as a laser during a medical procedure. Each shield has an external surface that absorbs energy that hits the shield. The shields are connected to each other by a nose piece, and the nose piece is connected to each shield by a mounting means. The mounting means are positioned perpendicular to the shields and parallel to each other so that the nose piece can pivot upward towards the user's forehead and downward towards the user's chin without altering the fit of the shields over the user's eyes.
- Safety eyeglasses having a metal frame are provided with integrally molded side shields. The frame includes a lens frame, a pair of metal temples hingedly connected on opposing sides of the lens frame, and side shields formed from a hardenable, liquid transparent resin material integrally connected to a mounting portion of the metal temples in the vicinity of the hinge connection. The mounting portion of the metal temples includes discontinuities which preferably take the form of a plurality of grooves to form an interference type joint between a fixing portion of the side shields that is molded around the grooved mounting portion to permanently join the side shields to the metal temples.
- It is known that the magnetic shields, between which CPP GMR stacks are sandwiched, can be a source of AMR (anisotropic magneto-resistance) noise. This has been significantly reduced by coating both the magnetic shields with highly conductive layers. If the guidelines disclosed in the invention are followed, the read head can exhibit AMR noise reduced by about 14 to 20. Additionally, the total thickness of the read gap can be maintained to be as low as 300 to 400 Angstroms.
- A cutting tool for, e.g., dressing electrode tips includes a toolholder having an opening extending through the toolholder from a top of the toolholder to a bottom of the toolholder along a central axis of the toolholder, and a plurality of insert mounting pockets disposed around the opening for mounting replaceable cutting inserts, the plurality of insert mounting pockets including a center pocket, a top pocket, and a bottom pocket. The tool also includes a center insert removably disposed in the center pocket, a top insert removably disposed in the top pocket, and a bottom insert removably disposed in the bottom pocket. When a top electrode tip and a bottom electrode tip are disposed in a dressing position relative to a top and a bottom of the opening in the toolholder and the tool is rotated, the center insert and the top insert dress the top electrode tip, and the center insert and the bottom insert dress the bottom electrode tip.
