- Before a programming guide is created, a unique code is assigned to each TV program that can be identified in the programming guide. Prior to the creation of the programming guide, a viewer selects the unique code corresponding to the TV show that the viewer would like to record whenever that TV show is broadcast. When the programming guide is created, the corresponding unique codes are associated with each TV program in the programming guide. The TV program corresponding to the viewer-selected unique code is then scheduled to be recorded in accordance with the announced broadcast schedule in the programming guide. A recording is made of the TV program corresponding to the viewer-selected unique code as the TV program is broadcast in accordance with the announced broadcast schedule in the programming guide.
- The present invention relates generally to interfacing a processor with at least one coprocessor. One embodiment relates to a processor having a set of broadcast specifiers which it uses to selectively broadcast an operand that is being written to a register within the processor to a coprocessor communication bus. Each broadcast specifier may therefore include a broadcast indicator corresponding to each general purpose register of the processor. An alternate embodiment may also use the concept of broadcast regions where each broadcast region may have a corresponding broadcast specifier where one broadcast specifier may correspond to multiple broadcast regions. Alternatively, in one embodiment, the processor may use broadcast regions independent of the broadcast specifiers where the coprocessor is able to alter its functionality in response to the current broadcast region. In one embodiment, the processor may provide a region specifier via the coprocessor communication bus to indicate the current broadcast region.
- An automation server interfaces with broadcast scheduling systems of various types to automatically synchronize the behavior of interactive applications relative to various broadcast programs, such as television shows and commercials, so as to maintain the appropriate interactive application for whatever broadcast program is airing. This allows for television shows which have an associated interactive application, but which are segmented by commercials (which may have their own interactive applications) to have their interactive application displayed while the television show in on, but not during commercials, while maintaining any state information that has been created during execution of the interactive application. The automation server includes multiple channel interfaces, each having a translator and an event manager. The translator translates native control signals from the scheduling system into a fixed set of atomic commands which represent the lifecycle behavior of a broadcast program. The event manager receives these atomic commands and uses them to determine the appropriate state for any interactive application that is associated with the broadcast program. The event manager transmits commands to a broadcast server which directly manages the interactive applications by transmitting code, data, and commands to broadcast receivers that controls the execution of the interactive applications in response to the event manager's commands.
- In a broadcast receiver, where the user operates a channel up/down key of a remote controller, when the broadcast signal to be next received is an analog broadcast signal, a tuner unit which has received a broadcast signal immediately before the operation receives the analog broadcast signal to be next received. In the broadcast receiver, in accordance with the side of the channel up/down key which is operated by the user (the up side or the down side), a digital broadcast signal of a channel number which is closest to the channel that is currently received and output by one of tuner units is previously received by the other tuner unit. When the user selects the channel of the digital broadcast signal which is received by the other tuner unit, the broadcast receiver outputs video and audio signals on the basis of the digital broadcast signal which is already received.
- A service provider broadcast system and method are described. The method includes acquiring network service information regarding broadcast service content to be broadcast by a broadcast service system over a predetermined period. Using the network service information, a composite content list is created, including meta-data describing service provider content available from the service provider system and the broadcast service content. The composite content listed is broadcast to client systems, which in turn, provide ratings for the service provider and broadcast service content described by the composite content list. Using the received ratings, the service provider system selects a portion of the broadcast service content and generates a broadcast schedule for the selected content. The broadcast schedule is then broadcast to the client systems to enable the client systems to store one or more of the content data files from the selected portion of the broadcast service content.
