Technical Examples
  1. Flash ROMs operate at a speed slower than that of a CPU. In order to raise the operating speed of a single-chip microcomputer, therefore, interleaving is adopted and a plurality of flash ROMs are operated alternately to obtain an apparent operating speed equivalent to that of a CPU. Read clock generating circuits are placed in close proximity to clock input pins of respective ones of the flash ROMs and supply the flash ROMs with read clocks obtained by dividing down the frequency of a system clock. Delay ascribable to wiring is eliminated from the read clocks as a result.
  2. A system and method for initialization of a computer system is described. Faster initialization of a computer system is possible by allowing certain device driver initialization tasks to overlap with other initialization and operating system tasks. option-ROMs resident on hardware device drivers define the initialization tasks to be performed prior to device driver initialization. Initial computer code for booting the computing device, such as a BIOS, is executed. As option-ROMs for hardware devices are scanned and executed, specific device initialization information is accessed from the devices and placed in pre-defined buffer areas. These accesses occur in parallel to other start up tasks. When device drivers are loaded, some of their initialization has already completed, thereby shortening the time necessary to boot the system.
  3. A method of recording data optically to an optical disk having a plurality of sectors, in which each sector has a region to be recorded with data, the data is recorded in units of blocks, and the block includes a predetermined number of sectors and is a data unit including error correction codes. In recording data related to a content by dividing and recording the data in a plurality of sectors continuously, dummy data to be used for extracting a clock in PLL for data reproduction is recorded on a region adjacent before a sector from which data recording is started. The data related to the contents is recorded on sectors following the region recorded with the dummy data.
  4. An automated system and method for diagnosing and monitoring respiratory insufficiency and outcomes thereof is described. A plurality of monitoring sets is retrieved from a database. Each of the monitoring sets include recorded measures relating to patient information recorded on a substantially continuous basis. A patient status change is determined by comparing at least one recorded measure from each of the monitoring sets to at least one other recorded measure. Both recorded measures relate to the same type of patient information. Each patient status change is tested against an indicator threshold corresponding to the same type of patient information as the recorded measures which were compared. The indicator threshold corresponds to a quantifiable physiological measure of a pathophysiology indicative of respiratory insufficiency.
  5. Input programming data items are recorded into a memory contained in an apparatus. That one of the programming data items recorded in the memory, which is requested to be recorded in a recording medium, is read from the memory, transferred to the recording medium and recorded thereon. Programming data for usual record programming and for record programming using a specified recording medium can be managed in a centralized manner by referring to the programming data items recorded in the memory.
