  1. The Digital Video Authenticator (DVA) addresses law enforcement concerns for a means to authenticate digital video (DV) so that it will be admissible and trusted as evidence in court. The DVA is a peripheral device attached to a commercial digital video recording device whose purpose is to generate and record authentication data simultaneously as DV is recorded by the video recording device. Verification of the authenticity of a DV sample will be accomplished using non-real-time software tools. The DVA system and method reads digital video (DV) data from a digital video recording device; parses the DV data into elements representing video, audio, control and timing data; and creates digital signatures that can be used to validate the original DV tape. The combination of secure digital signatures and repeatability of the DV data stored on tape provides the basis for proving the original video has not been modified.
  2. A digital signal recording device or a digital signal recording and playback device which receives an inputted digital signal having a predetermined packet format and including a digital video signal and a digital audio signal. The device also receives an inputted analog video signal and an inputted analog audio signal, converts the analog video signal and the analog audio signal to a digital video signal and a digital audio signal, compresses the digital video signal and the digital audio signal and multiplexes the compressed digital video signal and the compressed digital audio signal to produce a multiplexed digital signal having the selected one of the inputted digital signal and the multiplexed digital signal as a digital recording signal, and records the digital recording signal to produce a recorded digital signal.
  3. A clock recovery method for a TDM digital video signal and a transmitting/receiving apparatus for the clock recovery method are disclosed. A transmitter inserts a user clock code containing a predetermined number of points into the digital video signal during TDM processing and transmits the digital video signal. A receiver receives the TDM digital video signal and detects the user clock code from the TDM digital video signal. It counts a reference clock signal and recovers a transmission clock signal in an LMS algorithm using the user clock code and the count value.
  4. A circuit arrangement and method are disclosed for providing a video signal to a video display from a selectable subset of a plurality of digital video data carried on a plurality of video data channels. The digital video data is generated from video signals from a plurality of video sources, and each video channel selectably carries either color or monochrome video data. A processor is configured and arranged to interpret display commands, and a selector circuit is coupled to the processor. The selector circuit is arranged for connection to the plurality of video data channels and selects digital video data from a subset of the channels responsive to an input selection signal from the processor. A video data sequencer is coupled to the selector circuit and decodes color and monochrome video data from the video channels responsive to configuration signals indicating selected data formats for the channels and merges the selected video data into frames of video data. A digital-to-analog converter generates an analog video signal from the frames of video data.
  5. An improved method and system for capturing and displaying a series of successive video images using at least first and second different exposure times, so that first video images captured using said first exposure time occur alternately in said series with second video images captured using said second exposure time. The method employs a digital computer and a software program for generating and storing digital data representative of said first and second video images, and utilizing that digital data to selectively display (a) side-by-side reproductions of said first and second images or (b) reproductions of only said first or said second video images or (c) composite images derived from the first and second video images digital data.
