  1. A method and apparatus is disclosed for the customization of electronic equipment of which portable audio players, portable disc players, portable digital games and laptop computers are representative. The electronic equipment may be fitted with a substantially transparent faceplate that may cover removable inserts. These inserts may be customizable to provide unique decorative appearances to the electronic equipment upon which they may be fitted. Decorative designs may either be preprinted on the inserts or a user may produce a customized design.
  2. A toy throwing disc that is tossed between players has a unique feature of having the compartment in the center filled with a liquid or gel that creates a stabilizing effect. The water disc is a plastic molded flying disc with an outside molded rim and a sealed compartment in the top that holds water, and additionally may hold gel, glitter, colorful beads, decorative parts, etc. The top and bottom of the center portion is clear to make the contents visible from both sides. The center compartment stabilizes the disc by centrifugal force, creating extra speed and stabilization. The compartment also serves as a chamber that allows for attractive designs to constantly change by movement of the liquid and glitter or objects incorporated in the liquid when the disc is tossed.
  3. An optical disc for storage and retrieval of digital data, and a system and method for protecting the optical disc is disclosed. The optical disc has projections or embossments on one or both surfaces. When the optical disc is placed on a substantially flat surface such as a tabletop or a desktop, the projections act as pedestals that elevate the optical disc above the flat surface. The resulting gap or clearance helps prevent damage to the optical disc caused by contaminants on the flat surface or by defects in the flat surface. The projections are sized to provide adequate clearance between the disc and the flat surface, while minimizing interference between the projections and components of optical disc readers and drives. The optical disc may also include one or more depressions that are sized and configured to receive projections from another disc, which facilitates stacking of the optical discs.
  4. A method for successively recording data in a hybrid digital recorder. If an optical disc has no redundant area when a hybrid digital recorder in which an optical disc recorder and an HDD recorder, etc. are integrated in one body records an input data stream on the optical disc, the input data stream is temporarily stored in an HDD. If the optical disc is replaced with a new optical disc, the input data stream is temporarily stored in the HDD, and at the same time the data stream having been temporarily stored in the HDD is read and recorded on the new optical disc at a high speed. If all the data streams temporarily stored in the HDD are read and recorded on the new optical disc, the following data stream is recorded on the new optical disc. Therefore, an external input data stream such as a long-term broadcast program is distributed to a plurality of optical discs, and is stored on the optical discs without generating any lost data.
  5. A disc for use in an apparatus for signal processing, wherein the disc during its use is placed on the turntable and is provided with a groove which can be followed by the pick-up element, and which comprises a time-code signal wherein during use of the disc the said time-code signal controls the digital audio source.
