- A system and method for handling a query seeking information about computers of a network, where the query can be optimized in a way which limits the set of computers examined to a set smaller than all known computers. The query is examined to determine a limited list of computers to be accessed that would yield the complete result. If the query can be satisfied using data from a number of computers which is less than all of the computers in the network, then the number of computers which is less than all of the computers in the network is accessed to satisfy the query. In this manner, the data collection process for satisfying the query is generally more efficient than accessing all of the computers in the network.
- This computational data processing system comprises an assembly of networked computers (12, . . . 22) in each of which is stored at least one computational application, and a machine (10) for storing computational data which is linked to the network and in communication with the computers, at least one of the computers (12) operating as master computer and at least some of the other computers (14, . . . 22) operating as slave computer. At least one of the computers comprises, stored in memory an algorithm for configuring the other computers of the network as slave computers and an executable master application for managing the tasks of each slave computer (14, . . . 22) as a function of their availability for the assignment, to each of them, of computational tasks and of corresponding computational data which are stored in the storage machine (10).
- Apparatus and method for configuring and monitoring multiple computers coupled to a network. A management computer includes software for monitoring multiple monitored computers such as server computers that are networked together on a network. The management computer includes an aggregator component that accumulates information regarding the multiple monitored computers. A video display displays a result from the aggregator component. Each of the monitored computers implement a schema for responding to queries by the aggregator component of the management computer by providing an access point to information about the monitored computer. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention the schema is implemented using WMI functionality of Windows 2000® which is a specific implementation of the Web-Based Enterprise Management protocol (WBEM).
- A mobile teaching system is disclosed which allows the use of personal computing devices in a learning environment. A plurality of portable computers may communicate with a portable network center to undergo lesson plans, testing, and other educational tasks. The portable computers may be stored in a mobile storage unit that may also serve as a network communications center, and may also provide power connections for the computers. The computers may include removable, rechargeable batteries, which may be recharged at the storage unit.
- A cluster module for holding multiple computers. In one variation, a computer rack is configured to receive a plurality of cluster modules, and each of the cluster modules holds a plurality of computers. In one implementation, the computers are secured within the each of the cluster modules in a vertical orientation. In another implementation, the computers are secured within each of the cluster modules in a horizontal orientation.
