  1. A video signal processing apparatus and a computer system integrated with the video signal processing apparatus are disclosed. The video signal processing apparatus has a tuner, a video processor, a non-interlaced signal processing unit, a microprocessor, and a computer signal converter. In the video signal processing apparatus, the display can be instantly turned on and the video signal can be recorded in the storage media of a computer, and the video signal recorded in the storage media can be displayed on the display. While watching the video signal on the display, a user can execute applications in the computer simultaneously. The video signal processing apparatus further provides picture-in-picture feature by adding another set of tuner and video processor. The video signal processing apparatus can be integrated with a display or a computer, and can also be used as an external-enclosure video signal processing apparatus.
  2. Various embodiments of the invention provide methods and systems for receiving media content at a base station for use on a portable media device. Merely by way of example, one set of embodiments provides a base station with a plurality of receivers and inputs for receiving media content. In some embodiments, media content received by the base station via a receiver and/or input may be transferred to the portable media device. In some aspects, the portable media device is a wireless phone configured to play the media content. In certain embodiments, the base station may record the received media and the recorded media may then be transferred to the portable media device. In certain embodiments, the base station may have a user interface to display media available to the base station and/or recorded on the base station.
  3. Systems, methods, and computer readable media are provided for very fast failover of streaming media servers. Fast failover allows for better quality of service. If a first server that is streaming media to a customer fails, a second server can continue operations in its place. Single frame failover can be accomplished by simultaneously streaming a digital asset by a first server and a second server. The second server flags each frame of the asset for discard, and meanwhile monitors the first server to ensure the first server is operational. Upon detecting a failure in the first server, the second server stops flagging frames for discard.
  4. A system and method for improved navigation and access of computer media content using media transport controls is provided. These transport controls may be placed in various locations such as on the computer housing, on a keyboard, on a monitor or a remote control. With these controls, a user may easily play multimedia content and navigate to individual tracks or segments of an audio and/or video stream. The transport controls include a play/pause button, a stop button, a previous button, and a next button. A user may intuitively activate and interact with media content in a variety of applications using these transport controls. For example, users may play recordings such as voice mail and review their recorded replies using the transport controls. Users may similarly play and/or review multimedia annotations made to any application files, including traditional computer files such as spreadsheets, documents and presentations.
  5. A computer-implemented system for managing media that is used in the development of Web pages. A media managing software module supports the collection and storage of media for use by artists and writers in creating Web pages. The media managing software module further supports the delegation of tasks between artists and writers when creating Web pages. Writers can use the media managing software module to either insert media references into the Web page or to create specs requesting media. Artists can use the specs to create or locate needed media and associate the media with the request. The media managing software module can track of the status of requests for media and verify the availability of referenced media.
