  1. A recovery method that uses log takes a long time to recover, and another recovery method that uses backup has the difficulties that if a computer abnormally stops its conversion process due to a failure, the result of the conversion performed up to the time of that abnormal stop couldn't be reflected on the later process for recovery. In a computer system, a system recovery management unit produces backup as the initial status of volume and snapshot taken when the system is operating, by use of a backup restore processing unit of a storage apparatus, and manages the situations of the process by use of a recovery point list/table. When a trouble occurs, it determines a point of recovery from the recovery point list/table, and makes the volume be recovered from the produced backup and the overwriting of meta data in order to keep the data consistency.
  2. A method for enabling recovery of data stored in a computer network, the computer network comprises a plurality of computer nodes, the method comprising the steps of generating a set of redundancy data based on a predetermined relationship between a first set of data and a second set of data, injecting the first set of data, the second set of data and the set of redundancy data into separate looping paths of the computer network, wherein a looping path is a path along a plurality of computer nodes in which data is transported, and the looping paths are defined in separate communication channels between the computer nodes and pass through at least one common node of the computer network, such that the redundancy data and the second set of data can be used to reconstruct the first set of data based on the predetermined relationship between the first and second set of data when the first set of data is lost, thereby enabling the recovery of data stored in the computer network.
  3. A method, system, and computer-readable medium for enabling the segmented recovery of Basic Input Output System ("BIOS") program code in a computer system is provided. A system is provided that includes a recovery program for recovering BIOS code in the computer system. The recovery program retrieves split program files, each containing a portion of BIOS code, from storage media, such as floppy diskettes, and combines the program files into a single BIOS image file utilized by the computer system to recover the BIOS.
  4. The invention relates to a method for recovering data in a data processing system (1) according to which a recovery is exclusively effected in predetermined units or installations. A recovery program (3) is run on the data processing system (1). A testing procedure of given hardware features of the data processing system (1) is conducted, and all the features that are characteristic of the data and of the system are stored in a control file of the recovery program (3).
  5. An initial setup method (100) stores recovery tools (400) and a further setup script (402) on a computer (1000) which has an operating system (302) that need not have any recovery capabilities. At the user site, a further setup method (700, 800) reserves (706) a container space (500) in the file system space (304), creates (716) an image (1008) of the main partition (300), and stores (720) the image in the container. If the partition is corrupted later, the computer can still be booted using virtual boot tools (602), the image can be retrieved (914) from the container even though the partition around it was lost, and the image can then be deployed onto disk (200) over the corrupted partition, thereby restoring a working partition to the computer. This can be done without secondary media such as a recovery CD or floppy, and without a network connection.
