Technical Examples
  1. A call establishment method and corresponding communications terminal for a trunked radio network such as TETRA (708, 709) to establish a call from one network (700) to another network (711, 712, 730, 741) through a gateway (701, 713, 733, 740). A target telephone number is dialled at the calling communications terminal storing unique associations between telephone numbers and call types. Alternatively the call type is requested from a user of the calling communications terminal in case no call type is stored with the target telephone number. The gateway (701, 713, 733, 740) through which the target telephone number can be reached is then selected on the basis of the call type.
  2. A method and system for identifying telemarketer communications directed to a subscriber of a call screening service is provided. A link monitoring system monitors all inbound and outbound calls of a carrier network collecting data such as calling and called telephone directory numbers, and a termination status for at least each inbound call to a calling number. The data is analyzed at a telemarketer detection module to determine calling patterns of calling numbers. If a calling pattern of a calling telephone number matches a profile of telemarketer communications, the calling number is stored in a database of telephone directory numbers associated with telemarketer communications. A call is received from a calling party directed to a subscriber of the call screening service. Then a determination is made as to whether a telephone directory number of the calling party is known. If the telephone number of the calling party is known, a determination is made as to whether the telephone number of the calling party matches a telephone number stored in the database of telephone numbers associated with telemarketer communications. If a match exists, the call is intercepted from reaching the subscriber of the call screening service.
  3. A cradle includes: a telephone supporting section supporting a mobile telephone; a connecting section electrically connecting to the mobile telephone; a sensor communications section receiving a report from a sensor sensing a state of a monitored area; and a transmission instructing section providing an instruction signal to the mobile telephone via the connecting section to cause the mobile telephone to transmit a content of the report from the sensor to a management center.
  4. Directory assistance provides telephone number look up services to callers based on the business or caller name as listed in a telephone directory. In the prior art, directory assistance provides a value-added service to telephone users and an expense that must be charged back to telephone callers or absorbed by telephone carriers. In enhanced directory assistance (EDA) services as described in the disclosure, EDA is further developed to deliver a keyword targeted advertising service to telephone listing owners and advertisers. The present invention provides a method and system to extend EDA services to the wireless messaging systems used by telecommunications operators. The invention further discloses methods to support both one-way and two-way communications on these devices, as well as systems to support the distributed EDA Transaction business model.
  5. An interactive system and method for communicating data over a network of twisted pair wiring that is in active use as a conductive path for ordinary telephone signals. Data is encoded redundantly in multiple channels to avoid interference by noise on the telephone network, such as interference from common radio signals. Data is also communicated in the reverse direction using a more general procedure. This reverse channel can be located above the telephone voice band and below the multiple data channels. Data communications are accomplished without interfering with voice communications. The transmitted data may include audio/video signals, and signals from infrared transmitters.
