  1. A communications system contains a network linking a number of communications devices participating in a communications session. During the communications session, the communications devices share information indicating when participants are speaking. Based on this information, the communications devices control output levels to suppress the output of spurious signals during the communications session.
  2. A method of establishing a secure communications link between a user communications device and a first service communications device; the method comprises the steps of initiating a communications link using a first communications protocol between the user communications device and the first service communications device; performing, based on a PIN value, an initialisation procedure between the user communications device and the first service communications device, the initialisation procedure resulting in an identification key; storing the identification key in the user communications device and the first service communications device; the method is characterised in that it further comprises the steps of using a second communications protocol to perform a transaction between the user communications device and a second service communications device; generating and storing the PIN value; the invention further relates to a communications system and a mobile communications device.
  3. A method is disclosed of transferring data to a first communications device having a first transceiver for communication at a first data rate over a long range, and a second transceiver for communication at a second, higher data rate over a short range. The method includes forming a co-ordinated short-range wireless network using the first communications device and at least one second communications device of a similar type. Communication is then initiated between the first communications device and said at least one second communications device to establish whether that second communications device has data required by the first communications device. The first communications device then communicates, upon the first communications device receiving confirmation that a second communications device has the required data, with a service provider using its first transceiver to request permission for the transfer of the required data from said communications device to the first communications device. Finally, the required data is transferred from said second communications device to the first communications device, following transmission by the service provider to the first communications device of authorisation.
  4. To prevent a command from being unsmoothly issued when a communications channel (LUN) from a conventional initiator to a target enters communications disabled state for any reason there is provided, a data processing method for use between two nodes which are connected to a serial bus and perform communications by a plurality of logical communications units, in which, in the plurality of logical communications units, a first logical communications unit is used in data communications from an initiator to a target, a second logical communications unit is used in data communications from a target to an initiator, and a control command issued from the initiator to the target can be issued to and received by both logical communications units.
  5. A system and method for providing auxiliary reception in a wireless communications system includes a wireless communications device. The wireless communications device includes a first antenna and a second antenna. The wireless communications device can, for example, establish two-way communications with a wireless communications network. The wireless communications device can also use the second antenna in at least one of a mobile assisted hand off (MAHO), a diversity antenna system and a global positioning system (GPS) system.
