- A method of a facsimile apparatus includes the steps of providing the facsimile apparatus with a memory which prestores identification information for a plurality of different facsimile machines having common specifications of optional frames, receiving a call for a facsimile communications operation using an optional frame and then identification information from a calling facsimile machine, verifying the identification information sent from the calling facsimile machine with the identification information prestored in the memory, canceling performance of the facsimile communications operation using the optional frame when the identification information sent from the calling facsimile machine is different from the identification information prestored in the memory, and executing the facsimile communications operation using the optional frame when the identification information sent from the calling facsimile machine is identical to the identification information prestored in the memory.
- An internet facsimile communication system capable, in the internet facsimile based on the Recommendation T.38, of receiving an incoming call for a facsimile communication regardless of the setting of receiving mode in the facsimile apparatus thereby avoiding a drawback that a person responds to a facsimile communication.

- A method for facsimile transmission over a packet network includes establishing a facsimile call between first and second facsimile terminals in accordance with a facsimile protocol, using a facsimile gateway to convey communications between the terminals over the packet network. The gateway awaits the arrival of a signal conveyed over the packet network from the first terminal, to be transmitted from the gateway to the second terminal as provided by the protocol, and it transmits a fill page to the second terminal if the signal does not arrive within a time limit determined in accordance with the protocol. Upon receiving the signal, the gateway transmits the signal to the second terminal after transmitting the fill page.
- A system and method for facilitating facsimile transmissions has one or more store and forward facilities. The store and forward facilities include a computer for controlling operations and mass data storage equipment. Subscriber mailboxes are provided as part of the mass storage, which can be accessed by a subscriber to have his messages delivered to any facsimile machine he designates. Secure facsimile transmission is achieved through use of subscriber PIN numbers. The system can also be used in cooperation with a paperless facsimile machine which directly displays the facsimile message on a screen and is capable of entering outgoing facsimile messages to the store and forward facility.
