Technical Examples
- The invention relates to a cardiopulmonary resuscitation apparatus comprising: a device having a piston for compressing the sternum; and a device for thoracic constriction having a chest band for fastening and constricting the chest when the piston compresses a patient's chest, characterized in that the length of the chest band can be adjusted according to the size of the patient's chest. The apparatus further includes a protection pad to be attached to the chest when the chest band is tightened, thereby easily adjusting the length of the chest band according to the size of the patient's chest and protecting the patient's chest when it is compressed.
- An apparatus for assisting a rescuer in performing chest compressions during CPR on a victim, the apparatus comprising a pad or other structure configured to be applied to the chest near or at the location at which the rescuer applies force to produce the chest compressions, at least one sensor connected to the pad, the sensor being configured to sense movement of the chest or force applied to the chest, processing circuitry for processing the output of the sensor to determine whether the rescuer is substantially releasing the chest following chest compressions, and at least one prompting element connected to the processing circuitry for providing the rescuer with information as to whether the chest is being substantially released following chest compressions.
- Non-fluidized tissue expanders, tissue expander systems, and methods of expanding tissue are disclosed. The tissue expanders, systems, methods of the present invention incorporate an expandable encapsulated body mass implantable within the patient and operative to selectively expand to promote growth of an enlarged area of skin and subcutaneous tissue. Such tissue expansion is accomplished utilizing internal one or more distraction mechanisms disposed within the tissue expanders that are operative to expand by mechanical or electromechanical means. The present invention omits any type of inflatable body requiring the injection of fluids to effectuate expansion of the tissue expander.
