  1. A methodology for configuring the connection of adapters to bus controllers or other possibly failing components (PFCs) in a logically partitioned environment. The present invention comprises an Adapter Placement Program (APP), two Adapter Threshold Programs (ATPs), three Sequential Ranking Programs (SRPs), and three Weighting Factor Programs (WFPs). The APP determines the criteria the administrator desires to use to place the adapters on the bus controllers or other PFCs and selects the appropriate program to execute the adapter placement. The ATPs classify the adapters as either "hot" or "not hot" based on a traffic intensity threshold and place the adapters to the bus controllers or other PFCs. The SRPs rank the adapters and place the adapters to the bus controllers or other PFCs based on their rank. The WFPs assign weighting factors to the adapters and place the adapters to bus controllers or other PFCs based on the adapters' weighting factors.
  2. An organizer for organizing and storing one or more of adapters provided with rechargeable devices includes an AC power supply to provide access to electricity for the adapters to permit one or more of the adapters to operate simultaneously; a mechanism for storing excess adapter wiring; and a mechanism adapted to permit selectively extension or retraction of the wire of the adapter.
  3. A method and system of calibrating first and second adapters comprises the steps of calibrating coaxial ports of a vector network analyzer to traceable standards and connecting a symmetrical through circuit path between the coaxial ports. The through circuit path comprises a cascaded combination of the first and second adapters. The first adapter is passive and substantially identical to the second adapter and uncascaded first and second adapters comprise a measurement device path. The through circuit path and the measurement device path have substantially equivalent S-parameters. S-parameters of the through circuit path are measured and then the first and second adapters are characterized based upon the measured S-parameters. The method and system may be applied to two port adapters and devices under test and may also be scaled for multi-port adapters and devices under test.
  4. A technique is provided for facilitating writing of messages to multiple adapters connected to a high speed switch in a distributed computing environment. The technique employs a first, relatively quick filter to initially test whether a previously used adapter of the multiple adapters should be used to send a new message. If the first filter fails to select the previously used adapter, then the technique includes employing a second, more complicated filter to determine which adapter of the multiple adapters should be used to send the message. The first filter includes a first set of tests, and the second filter includes a second set of tests.
  5. A technique is provided for facilitating peeking and reading of messages from multiple adapters connected, for example, to a high speed switch in a distributed computing environment. The technique employs a first, relatively quick filter to initially test whether a previously used adapter of the multiple adapters should be used to peek or read a new message. If the first filter fails to select the previously used adapter, then the technique includes employing a second, more complicated filter to determine which adapter of the multiple adapters should be used to peek or read the next message. The first filter includes a first set of tests, and the second filter includes a second set of tests.
