  1. According to the invention, a process for transferring funds between a payor and a payee in an online transaction is disclosed. In one step, information is received from the payor for debiting a bank account associated with the payor. Authorization is transmitted to the payee to request debits from the payor. The total of all debit requests does not exceed an amount that is authorized. A first request is received from the payee to debit the customer a first portion of the amount. A first debit is initiated from the bank account for the first portion of the amount. A second request is received from the payee to debit the payor a second portion of the amount. A second debit is initiated from the bank account for the second portion of the amount.
  2. Methods according to the invention include accepting e-check data input from a payer, parsing the data to determine the bank routing number and the ostensible checking account number, determining the correct number of checking account digits based on the bank routing number, determining whether the ostensible checking account number has the correct number of digits, and prompting the payer to re-enter the checking account number with the correct number of digits if necessary. In addition, the methods include automatically pre-pending and/or appending zero digits where necessary to correct the number of digits in the checking account number. In cases where the payer includes the check number as part of the account number, the methods include removing the check number from the account number by prompting the payer to enter the check number so that it can be deleted from the account number. The methods also reduce NSF returns by comparing account numbers to a negative list to determine whether the account has a history of NSF returns and by automatically re-presenting NSF returns on the next four business days following the return.
  3. To enable the payment of charges, for example those for mobile telephones, with cash there is provided an automated terminal for receiving payments including an input for currency notes, an acceptor for such currency notes and an input for information on an account for charges to which payment is required together with a control arrangement to record said account information and the value of acceptable currency notes fed in, to relate said information to said value as payment to said account and to hold said related information and value and acceptable currency notes available for retrieval. In this way a user need not have a bank account to make a payment to an account with a service provider.
  4. A system that includes computer hardware, computer software, apparatus, and methodology that enables individuals, businesses, and all types of organizations (both for profit and non-profit) to capture and securely transmit check images (including, but not limited to, personal checks, business checks, travelers checks, money orders, merchant coupons, food coupons, line of credit checks, etc.), deposit information, and other information from capture sites that preprocess financial instruments and generate data from the original instruments, for the purpose of having those checks credited to the depositing individual's or organization's bank account(s) and having the check images (and/or physical checks) entered into the bank check clearing channels for ultimate delivery to the maker bank for payment out of the maker's account.
  5. A computerized banking system for handling dual accounts is disclosed. A bank database has transaction information for number one and two accounts. The computer is programmed to generate separate statements for at least the number two account, which first and second statements are provided to the number two account holder. The number one account holder does not have access to the first statement of transactions to maintain independence and privacy, but only to the second statement including specific fund transactions from said number one account. Communication between the account holders is provided by the computer through wireless devices, and the statements are generated in electronic form. The computerized method comprises related steps.
