  1. An apparatus and method for use in severing casing as it is pulled from a wellbore. In one aspect, the apparatus, includes a clamping assembly, a drilling assembly and a cutting assembly. The apparatus is disposed at the end of a telescopic arm, with the components being remotely operated by personnel using a control panel. The apparatus is positioned adjacent casing and clamped thereto. Thereafter, the apparatus drills a hole completely through the casing for the insertion of a retention pin. The apparatus then severs the casing.
  2. The mobile communication apparatus informs occurrence of a missed event with a vibrator 54 in response to the detection of a second state that a case separates from the other case in the apparatus. For example, the missed event can be that the apparatus has a missing incoming call, that the apparatus has an unread message, or that a missed alarm time in the apparatus has already past. Further, the apparatus informs the occurrences without recognizing the LCD 42.
  3. A shock absorbing apparatus in a positioning apparatus including a stage apparatus is disclosed. The positioning apparatus includes a main body apparatus for mounting the stage apparatus thereto, and a chamber for maintaining a region, in which the stage apparatus is disposed, under a condition of vacuum or purged ambience. The shock absorbing apparatus includes a shock absorber provided at a stroke end of the stage apparatus, and a support member provided separately from the stage apparatus, to which the shock absorber is fixed. In the shock absorbing apparatus of the present invention, the shock absorbing apparatus is fixed to the support member provided separately from the stage apparatus including a driving system, and accordingly an increase in size of the stage apparatus can be prevented, and high-speed and highly-precise positioning of an object to be positioned can be performed in a non-atmospheric ambience.
  4. A band control system for a digital subscriber line network in which a first apparatus and a second apparatus situated at a subscriber station and a center, respectively, are interconnected by a cable for interchanging at least a digital data signal with each other. The system may cause one of the first apparatus or the second apparatus to monitor receipt of signals from the other of the first apparatus or the second apparatus; send, based on a result of monitoring, a band variation command to the other apparatus for causing the other apparatus to vary a band by using a frequency band not used for signal transfer; cause the other apparatus to receive the band variation command; and vary the band in accordance with the band variation command.
  5. When an image capturing apparatus and an operation apparatus become connected to each other, function information is transmitted from the image capturing apparatus to the operation apparatus. The operation apparatus can recognize the functions effective in the image capturing apparatus by receiving the function information from the image capturing apparatus. The operation apparatus compares the received function information with the functions that can be processed by the operation apparatus, and sets the protocol. The protocol includes ones that is associated with a moving image attribute associated with moving image data and that is associated with the shooting function of the image capturing apparatus. Then, the operation apparatus transmits protocol information to the image capturing apparatus. Thereafter, the image capturing apparatus and the operation apparatus perform data communication based on the protocol.
