- A perfluoropolyether, a composition comprising the perfluoropolyether, a process for producing the perfluoropolyether, and a process for improving the thermostability of grease or lubricant are provided. The perfluoropolyether comprises perfluoroalkyl radical end groups in which the radical has at least 3 carbon atoms per radical and is substantially free of perfluoromethyl and perfluoroethyl end groups. The process for producing the perfluoropolyether can comprise (1) contacting a perfluoro acid halide, a C2-to C4-substituted ethyl epoxide, or a C3+ fluoroketone with a metal halide to produce an alkoxide; (2) contacting the alkoxide with either hexafluoropropylene oxide or tetrafluorooxetane to produce a second acid halide; (3) esterifying the second acid halide to an ester; (4) reducing the ester to its corresponding alcohol; (5) converting the alcohol with a base to a salt form; (6) contacting the salt form with a C3 or higher olefin to produce a fluoropolyether; and (7) fluorinating the fluoropolyether. The process for improving the thermostability of a grease or lubricant comprises combining the grease or lubricant with the composition.
- A pneumatic grease gun has a first compressed air chamber formed between a sleeve and a first piston set, and a second compressed air chamber formed between the sleeve and a second piston set so that the pressure of compressed air is double to increase the thrust force to push grease therefore make replenishment of fresh grease more effective. Moreover, grease is blocked by the two piston sets and the sleeve so that grease is prevented from returning and clogging the air vane and the life span of the pneumatic grease gun increases.
- A frangible grease cap for use in a collapsible constant velocity joint. The frangible grease cap includes a body generally having a circular shape. The frangible grease cap includes an orifice through a center section of the body. The grease cap also includes at least one reduced thickness groove on a surface of the body of the constant velocity joint grease cap. The grease cap has a circumferential flange extending from an end thereof. The grease cap includes reduced thickness grooves having predetermined shapes which will peel or rupture when a predetermined axial load is applied thereto. The grease cap is secured to an inner surface of an outer race through any known securing method which also influences when the grease cap will fracture during or completely release during a crash event when a predetermined axial load is applied thereon.
